I was asked to build something that would hold this big heavy mandrel that is used to hammer out bangles and other jewelry items. It needed to hold the weight and turn smoothly, so that hammering could work its way around swiftly. I went to the auto supply store and found some bearing rings that just fit... attached them to a steel pipe and mounted it all in a wood stand... decorated with scrolls!

Employers like it when employees go that extra step. I could have stopped with the black paint, but I like the way tools of old put some flair and art into their construction, so I added some art!

Here is a close-up of the main bearing and how it fits into the mandrel.
I only had to file down a little bit of the inside, and then it was a perfect fit!
